On this project, the design work had been completed by the owner. The original building was a tired face brick 3 storey walk up; garages and a one bedroom unit on the ground floor; the other 2 levels consisted of a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom units, one per floor. The client requested a total refurbishment inside and out, including the addition of adding a upper-floor to the 3rd level, with the issues of marrying the old and new and no disruption to the existing ground layout to accommodate stairs. Working with a craftsman building team and a detail-driven owner the finished house provides the desired contextual response, enlarged living areas via the 4th level addition.
